Job Description

Are you passionate about cloud services, agile development and delivering concrete business value? We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to strengthen our IT infrastructure team with someone skilled within database (On-prem, IaaS and PaaS) platforms in specific but also within IT infrastructure technologies, ecosystems and governance. As Volvo Cars is on an ambitious journey to modernize our current infrastructure landscape by utilizing modern cloud services, we are looking for skills that could help us bridge and transform technology and services from datacenter centric to cloud centric solutions.

During the next year the majority of our workloads well be on cloud services. We are looking for colleagues to help us transform and develop new capabilities to fully embrace the potential of cloud services and enable or development and business teams.

You will join a product team within the Digital Platform area at Volvo Cars. You will be part of the journey as we deliver on our company’s vision and building new features and capabilities to meet a swift moving business, but also pick up other tasks helping the product team(s) move forward. We ensure high quality and adaptability in our delivery.


What you’ll do
In general the Infrastructure Engineer works closely with the global support team to ensure the best possible database delivery. You will be in close interaction with business representatives to capture new requirements, develop and deliver solutions to ensure that a reliable, consistent level of service is available to IT service consumers. You are responsible for the database environment globally and be supported by global specialists and operations teams.

As a Database Infrastructure Engineer you will contribute to the establishment of an automation framework for our infrastructure service delivery. You bring expertise to codify and manage underlying IT infrastructure as software (programmable or software-defined infrastructure). You’ll help us build new iterations of the Volvo Cars infrastructure stack. We’re increasingly motivated to operate globally and across multiple public cloud providers. You’ll collaborate with other team members to design, build, and test new architectural patterns while supporting our growing application teams and to accelerate our path to private cloud.

With an always-on mindset and high sense of urgency, you will be assisting departments globally (Engineering, Operation & Maintenance) in designing, configuring and managing solutions for their devices, tools, and applications.


Your Profile 

You have a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent experience in a relevant field. You are fluent in English, both verbally and written. You are experienced at working within agile development practices and teams that use collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps or alike.

You are an experienced engineer with 5+ years of working knowledge of Oracle, SQL and Open source databases. As we are shifting workloads out from our datacenters to hybrid and public cloud services, documented experience and knowledge about largest hyperscale and their services are meriting. Microsoft Azure or other public cloud management and architecture design experience is preferred. 

In the era of cloud computing to manage all our databases, you should have proven knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) to automate the provisioning of infrastructure, enabling our organization to develop, deploy, and scale cloud applications with greater speed, less risk, and reduced cost – rather than manually configure discrete hardware devices and operating systems. Experience of cloud-native databases such as Cosmos DB and MongoDB Atlas are meriting.
